Cult Classic comes to mind when you talk about “Spinal Tap”. Hilarious, clever and brilliant also come to mind in this well known “mockumentary” of the rock and roll industry. If you haven’t seen this film yet, rent it.

“This Is Spinal Tap” follows the behind the scenes action of the once famous British heavy metal band “Spinal Tap” (the loudest band in the world), and the film-maker who travels with them on their American tour to document their comeback.

The script is hilarious, the music rocking and lyrics insanely funny. Songs such as “Big Bottom”, “Hell Hole” and “Sex Farm” should give you an idea of what’s to come. All of the lead actors - Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer - play and sing as well as any rock band. Guest, McKean and Shearer are brilliantly funny in their performances, aptly directed by Rob Reiner, all of which are the same crazed minds who wrote the script and music for this film. Watch for the amp scene with Nigel and Marty, Stonehenge and cameos of Dana Carvey and Billy Crystal as inane mime performers during a backstage party. This satire is biting in its wit and merciless in its view of rock and roll stars and their glorified, priviledged lives.

1984. Directed by Rob Reiner. Written by Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer and Rob Reiner. Music and Lyrics by Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer and Rob Reiner. Starring Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer, Rob Reiner and Bruno Kirby.
