Movie Review: The Deer Hunter

Set in the era of the Vietnam war “The Deer Hunter” is an anti-war film at its best. This is a stunning, gritty film on war and what it does to war survivors. The story involves three friends from a small industrial town who enlist in the army and follows their experiences in a Vietnam prison camp that changes their lives forever. This classic film with an amazing cast of actors takes you into the depth of despair during Vietnam and follows the challenge of these friends returning to a normal life after serving in the war.

The performances of De Niro and Walken in particular are brilliant, especially Walken. His final scenes with De Niro are shattering and painful to watch. If you have never seen “The Deerhunter” rent it and be prepared to watch a great film that will haunt you for years to come.

1978. Directed by Michael Cimino. Starring Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, Meryl Streep, John Savage and John Cazale.
