While watching “License To Wed” I kept thinking “if only the material were better written”. I really wanted to like this movie more than I did. It was frustrating to see Robin Williams, one of my favorite actors, and the talented John Krasinski of “The Office” fame work with material that should have showcased their talents better. It was not the fact that the storyline was cliche; it wasn’t, this was a fairly original concept. The jokes were more of the chuckle kind, nothing really that clever in the script and it certainly could have been done correctly. If I had to pinpoint it I’d say the humor was too broad and that to me came down to the writing and direction.
Williams, Krasinski and Moore all do their best in this comedy. It is reasonable to watch, some humor is there to enjoy but it just doesn’t work very well. The bright spot is Krasinski whose character is natural and charming. The guy has timing and working with the king of timing, Robin Williams, he stands up well to the task. There are a number of fun cameos by actors from “The Office” which are also fun to watch.

2007. Directed by Ken Kwapis. Starring Robin Williams, John Krasinski and Mandy Moore.
