If you were politically involved watching the wrenching drama of the election of 2000 this account of the recount should be an eye opener. “Recount” covers the margin of votes that won the presidency for George W. Bush from Al Gore. The story would be interesting simply for the facts of the many discrepancies that have to make you wonder who really won. The HBO screenplay is well written and engaging in a fast paced drama between the political parties. Even though we all know the ending to the story, its a fascinating look into how wrong things can go when it comes to choosing our president.

The acting ensemble is uniformly excellent along with the strong direction and style of the film. Exceptional performances by Kevin Spacey, Tom Wilkinson and Laura Dern make this movie one on your “must see” list. If you can’t stand politics perhaps the action springing from the fast paced dialog might entice you. Don’t miss this one.
