Movie Review: Street Kings
“Street Kings” has a bit of style added to a mostly implausible plot. If you are looking for an action movie this is a good action film with good acting. I think the screenplay could have been stronger but the action makes up for it.
This is one of the better performances I’ve seen Keanu Reeves do. This is the type of role he should have been playing all along. Forest Whitaker is intense and gives a good performance of a top cop with some skeletons in the closet. There is quite a bit of intensity with both Keanu Keeves and Forest Whitaker in scenes together, you believe they are close cop friends who have formed a close bond. I always enjoy Hugh Laurie, its good to see him in some mainstream movies. The guy is plain talented. I find it fascinating that his forte has been comedy in the past but then again some of the best dramatic actors are comic actors, comedy is much harder to do. Here Laurie is underused but makes the most of the lines he’s given.
For an action flick its fast, intense and watchable. Don’t look for too much substance other than the acting. If you can put your expectations for a reality based plot to the side you will enjoy this movie.
