“Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day”is a throughly charming movie starring the talented Frances McDormand in the title role. If you’ve seen Ms. McDormand in the Cohen brother’s films previously you will find this a much different role for her. This romantic comedy has moments of drama that help drive the storyline and keep it from being your typical romantic comedy. The story centers on the out of work Pettigrew and her entry into the world of the wealthy. If you think this is an empty fairy tale its far from it with adult themes and the spector of war in London looming.
The ensemble is well cast overall. The supporting cast is excellent and the leading actors are perfection in their roles. The period costumes are exquisite, with the direction, editing, lighting, scenery and pacing excellent. Its good to see a lighter style movie with some believable relationships, dialogue and acting for a change. McDormand is as always fascinating to watch. Don’t miss this one.
