Movie Review: 88 Minutes
“88 Minutes” has an implausible plot but then again many thrillers do. The movie is ok, not great but not horrible either. I’ve seen viewer reviews about how bad Pacino’s performance is here but I don’t think that is the case. The character is analytic, his action takes place as he thinks. Pacino is the best thing in the movie and there is a good supporting cast as well, in particular Alicia Witt and Neal McDonough. The movie seems to suffer from a poor screenplay and the director’s slow pacing. This is not the movie to see for Pacino’s finest work. Rent “Serpico”, “Dog Day Afternoon”, “Merchant of Venice” or “The Godfather” to see him at his best.
As thrillers go there is plenty of action and twists. There is quite a bit of graphic violence in the film so be forwarned. I’m giving this one a higher rating than it deserves due to Pacino’s performance.

2008. Directed by Jon Avnet. Starring Al Pacino, Alicia Witt, Leelee Sobieski, Amy Brenneman and Neal McDonough.
