Jeff Garlin is an engaging actor. I liked this movie and the idea of a guy who is lonely and looking for something new in his life. Garlin’s character James aspires to be a famous stage actor, he’s an overweight guy who thinks he doesn’t do well with women and still lives with his mother. If you think of the ironic everyday funny in life this is what Garlin captures in his film.
According to IMDB the tagline for the movie is “Sometimes love is just a big bowl of wrong”. I think Garlin got it right, this is a funny movie, not fall down funny but witty and clever with moments of inspired improv in the mix from a number of Second City actors cast in the movie. If you are looking for slapstick style comedy or a romantic comedy, this is not the movie for you. The film is much more like watching over the shoulder of the character as he trudges through his life.
I recommend this film because I thought it was well done other than an abrupt ending to the film. This independent film is an odd and quirky comedy and isn’t for everyone. If you like clever comedy this one’s for you.
