Movie Review: Visioneers

The Jeffers Corporation is taking over the work world and George is feeling the pressure. George is a loyal Jeffers manager of level three employees. There is a company wide problem with stress and ignoring feelings to do the job. Employees are dropping left and right, literally exploding from stress. George works feverishly to keep his sanity and maintain his work ethics while trying to connect with his wife and son.

This is an escapist style movie that makes you think about how controlled we are by work, by society, by the rules we put upon ourselves, and the rules we allow others to put upon us. The best part of Visioneers is Zach Galifianakis, this guy is not just a stand-up comic (and a brilliant one at that), he’s got some real chops as an actor. This is not a laugh out loud comedy but one that makes you laugh and think. The cast is solid and the story, though scattered, is interesting. A better screenplay would have given this movie a boost, but it is worth watching if you enjoy improv and like the talented Galifianakis. Fyi: the Jeffers company greeting is hilarious. Visioneers is quirky, strange and fun to watch. Rent it and enjoy.

2008. Directed by Jared Drake. Starring Zach Galifianakis, Judy Greer, Mia Maestro, James LeGros, Missi Pyle, and D.W. Moffett.
