Movie Review: The American

Hired killer Jack wants out of the killing game but is scheduled for one final job in Italy before he is allowed to leave his position. Jack is assigned to construct a special weapon for a Belgian assassin. Jack meets Clara, a prostitute he connects with who wants as much as he does, a normal, sane life. Jack must finish his final job but yearns to escape his past with his newfound love.

Clooney does laudable work here as a damaged, controlled killer who lives for his job but seeks connection with someone, anyone he can trust. Clooney’s fine acting skills allow you to see the wheels turning in the brain of this character every second you watch him. The best thing about this movie is Clooney. The story is good but not riveting, and the supporting actors are interesting in this film. This is a good thriller that will entertain you. If you are a Clooney fan you will enjoy this film.

2010. Directed by Anton Corbijn. Starring George Clooney, Violante Placido, Thekla Reuten, Paolo Bonacelli, Paolo Bonacelli, Johan Leysen, Irina Bjorklund, and Filippo Timi.
