Movie Review: The Adjustment Bureau

David Norris is a driven politician whose life revolves around New York politics. When Norris has a chance meeting with ballet dancer Elise Sellas fate seems to change everything. Norris is on the verge of winning a seat in the U.S. Senate when he accidently witnesses unseen forces manipulating events and realizes his life is under The Adjustment Bureau’s control.

This sci-fi thriller is action packed, an action movie that actually lives up to the hype. The script is well written and interesting, and there is plenty of action throughout the film. The film is based on a short story by Philip K. Dick (Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report.) The screenplay fleshes out the characters, which are well thought out and interesting, not always the case in action flicks. Matt Damon is very good here, as is Emily Blunt, giving solid performances that keeps the audience involved. The supporting cast is good, especially Anthony Mackie and John Slattery. The real fascination with this film is how The Adjustment Bureau works.

First time director George Nolfi, who also wrote the screenplay, does a fine job with this film and all aspects, from cinematography to special effects to lighting are excellent.

If you like sci-fi or action this is a great film with fine performances and a fascinating story. Put The Adjustment Bureau on your must see list.

2011. Written and directed by George Nolfi. Starring Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Anthony Mackie, Michael Kelly, John Slattery and Terence Stamp.
