Ok I’ll fess up, I’m not much of a horror movie fan, never have been. I’d heard about this film for a number of years and after seeing the newest Star Trek and being impressed with Simon Pegg as Scottie, I knew I had to watch this film. This film is a great horror spoof with some serious moments but is pretty much brilliantly done and hilarious.
Shaun of the Dead is the story of Shaun, a hapless english guy whose girlfriend thinks he is a loser and is fed up with him. Shaun just can’t get a break in life. When a lot of zombies and harrowing situations appear Shaun gets religion and does his best to make sure his girlfriend, family and friends survive the zombie attacks.
The cast is uniformly great and make the best of the excellent screenplay. Standouts in the film include Pegg, who is pitch perfect as Shaun, and Nick Frost, who is the comic relief in the script full of comedy if you can believe it. The fact that Nick Frost and Simon Pegg are best friends in real life works brilliantly for their chemistry in the movie. There are references to zombie flicks for you real horror fans.
With solid direction, a great screenplay, great acting and plenty of gore, horror and comedy fans alike will enjoy this flick. If this film is not a cult classic yet, it soon will be.
